Smart solutions for a better world
Implementing a consistent monitoring strategy, collect supply chain and set up reliable footprint calculations can be rather challenging, but with our expert team skilled in environmental footprint analysis, software engineering, and data generation, we're here to make it seamless for you. We have created specific modules for footprint management that can be flexibly utilized to empower you to assess your environmental impact throughout the agri-food value chain.
Depending on your needs, we can combine specific Environmental Footprinting Modules to create a customer-centric solution for addressing your footprint challenges and advancing sustainability. Our scientifically grounded modules are flexible and easily scalable. Instead of disrupting existing workflows, Blonk's modules seamlessly integrate with your existing data and analytics platforms through software interfaces (APIs).
Digital solutions to advance sustainability in the agri-food sector
Building an accurate footprint strategy with our Environmental Footprinting Modules
The flexibility of the modules makes it possible to expand the scope of the project, and for instance add additional impact categories, or extend the scope of the calculations by broadening the system boundaries.
Gather accurate primary data by sending questionnaires up and down the value chain with Blonk’s data collection module.
Ensure data quality through a validation process that combines client’s and our domain expertise.
Leverage our expertise in LCI data generation, using specialized Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Modules for Crops, Animal Systems and (Food) Processing.
Background Data Modules
Generated LCIs can be combined with background life cycle data from high-quality background databases, such as Agri-footprint and ecoinvent, to create a complete inventory of the product life cycle.
LCA Impact Calculation
Our in-house LCA calculator swiftly and reliably computes a broad spectrum of environmental impacts, such as the carbon footprint, in line with European environmental footprinting guidance (PEF).
Simplify environmental impact analysis with our Result Interpretation module. It provides a clear contribution analysis, helping clients identify main footprint contributors and plan sustainability and reduction strategies.
Import and export the results in common LCA data formats (SimaPro .CSV / ILCD XML).

Advancing sustainability in the global agri-food sector requires representative, clear, and comparable information. To come up with sound environmental footprint calculations high-quality data is crucial. Therefore, we developed several environmental data products, which support you with a wide range of sustainability assessments.
Some examples of our data solutions:
Agri-footprint is a Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) database comprised of secondary data covering more than 4,800 datasets from 63+ countries, representing the global food market. It primarly covers agricultural commodity production, processing, and market mixes of relevant products. Key industries covered: Feed, including amino acids, vitamins, minerals, Food, including ingredients relevant for food producers, and Biomaterials, including biofuels, palm oil, straw etc. The database is widely used and implemented by the agri-food industry, LCA community, scientific community, and governments worldwide.
The latest version of the Agri-footprint Databases is fully aligned with the SBTi Forest Land Agriculture (FLAG) Guidelines, enabling you to conduct GHG inventory analysis and FLAG target setting.
LUC Impact dataset
The LUC Impact dataset provides LUC greenhouse emissions for 9,000+ crop-country combinations, including emission results calculated using both linear and equal amortization in compliance with footprinting standards such as PAS2050-1 and SBTi FLAG.
Customized data solutions
Our team of data specialists is also able to build customized data solutions tailored to your needs, such as Branded Datasets, which provide insight into the environmental impacts of products of specific brands.
Automated CO2-footprint calculations for Albert Heijn
For Albert Heijn, a Dutch retailer, we utilize various Environmental Footprinting Modules to support them with largescale data collection among 600+ farmers globally, and consistent product footprint calculations of specific fruit and vegetable products. Eventually, the insights, gathered within this project, will empower Albert Heijn to set up meaningful emission reduction programs, improve their supply chain, and contribute to a more sustainable society.
example of LCA database
Advancing sustainability in the agri-food sector requires accurate and precise information. Blonk developed the Agri-footprint database to provide a thorough and consistent life cycle inventory (LCI) database for the agriculture and food sector. The database is widely used and implemented by the food industry, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) community, the scientific community, and governments worldwide.
Example of tailored software solution
Growing Media Europe LCA platform
In 2019 Blonk started a project for Growing Media Europe (GME), the European association of growing media producers, to set up a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) platform, making it easy and accessible for their members and any other stakeholder to measure and improve the environmental footprint of growing media products.
The GME LCA platform is an online tool that brings together the Growing Media Environmental Footprint Guidelines (GMEF guidelines) and an LCA database.
Example of software solution
Deforestation is one of the biggest issues facing the global agriculture production system and a big contributor to climate change worldwide.
Within Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies it is often a requirement to report the emissions emerging from Land Use Change (LUC) separately. This can become rather complex because data availability is limited.
We specifically designed our LUC Impact products to address this challenge and provide solutions.
